Tutoring Approach
- Initial Session: I take this opportunity to understand more about the student, past exam results, other subjects being studied and future goals – this enables me to draw up an initial plan for further sessions, tailored to the areas which need most attention at the right time.
- Gaining Confidence: I try to help students gain confidence in their ability by working on areas of weakness first. I try to break problems down into manageable chunks and explain those parts that do not make sense in more detail, using my communication skills to explain concepts in a simple way. This is often done by looking at different questions on the problematic topic.
- Homework Problems: I set homework problems to consolidate what is covered during the sessions and to identify gaps in the learning; although I do not mark these, feedback from this process is crucial to ensure that progress is continually being made.
- Exam Preparation: more emphasis on past papers, consolidation of knowledge and exam strategy, but this depends on individual circumstances. I provide my own solutions to past papers questions as needed.
